Established in 1965, Headstart is the longest running, most successful school readiness program in the nation. Headstart addresses the nutritional, educational and social needs of children 3 to 5 years old.
With a comprehensive look at child and family development, our staff offers guidance to parents interested in obtaining their General Equivalency Diploma (GED), as well as classes in child care, nutrition and physical and mental health. They also assure that immunization and other medical needs are met.
Headstart serves over 300 families a year and operates out of 21 licensed centers in nine counties: Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Goochland, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward.
